What is Read Aloud and Translate? Who is it for? How do students access Read Aloud and Translate?

Yes – Read Aloud and Translate is now available in Mathletics, helping more students access Activity questions independently.

What is Read Aloud and Translate?

Read Aloud and Translate gives students additional support when completing Mathletics Activities. Students can:

  • Listen to Activity questions read aloud – ideal for students who are still developing their reading fluency.
  • Translate questions into a supported language and have them read aloud – helping EAL students understand what each question is asking.

By removing reading and language barriers, the feature helps more students engage with Activities independently, regardless of their reading ability or language background.

Note: Māori Read Aloud support will be available soon.

Who is it for?

Read Aloud and Translate is particularly useful for:

  • Students still developing reading fluency who may find it difficult to read Activity questions independently.
  • EAL students who are learning English and may benefit from seeing and hearing questions in their preferred language.

The feature is available in Mathletics Activities for K–12 students.

How do students access Read Aloud and Translate?

When a student is in the Activities area and needs language or Read Aloud support:

  • Click the Read Aloud settings icon in the top-right corner (the speaker with the small cog).
  • In the menu that opens, turn Read Aloud and Transcribe on or off, and select a language from the dropdown.
  • Use the speaker icon on the left of the activity to hear the text read aloud.
  • Use the language icon on the left of the activity to translate the text into your selected language.
