Why is Live Mathletics effective?

Being able to recall number bonds and times table facts quickly and efficiently, and the ability to mentally perform calculations are essential for students. Regular practice in these skills not only enhances their proficiency but also boosts their confidence in mathematical fluency.

Live Mathletics provides students with an engaging way to practice their mental maths skills.

At Level 1 students practice their number bonds to 10, answering as many questions as possible in 1 minute. After 3 incorrect answers, the game ends and students need to try again. To make the game even more exciting, students can also choose to play against other students on Mathletics from around the world or from their school, or they can select to play against other students in their class. For any less competitive students, there is also the option to play against the computer.

As students progress through the levels of Live Mathletics, they get more challenging. Teachers can view the data from students’ participation in Live Mathletics and they can also block students from the lower levels of Live Mathletics. This way, they ensure that students are challenging themselves and not playing on levels they have already mastered.

Live Mathletics also encourages students to challenge themselves by indicating the student’s challenge level with a gold star. Students double their points when they play on their challenge level. The gold star will move up automatically when a student has mastered a level and is ready to challenge themselves on the next level.

How to restrict students from accessing the lower levels of Live Mathletics:

  1. From the teacher console, select Settings from the right-hand menu.
  2. Select the level that you want your students to have access to and click Save. Now when your students access Mathletics, they will be able to ‘play’ the level that you have selected, and all the levels above. The lower levels will be blocked.
